National Sight Week – sponsored by the ASCRS Foundation – will be held next week, October 24–28. The goal is to schedule and deliver as many charitable cataract surgeries as possible during this one-week time period. Each month, ASCRS recognizes an EyeConnect Platinum Member for their valuable contributions to the EyeConnect forum. This month’s recipient is Dr. Jason Jones from Sioux City, Iowa.
Dr. Jones was selected as October’s recipient based on his engagement points and his extensive contributions to the community. He has been an active EyeConnect contributor since 2008.

The submissions deadline for the 2017 ASCRS•ASOA Symposium & Congress is this Thursday, Oct. 6 at 5 p.m. ET. The deadline pertains to submissions for courses, posters, papers and film abstracts. Submit your entries today.
Submissions for T&N Tech Talks and Ophthalmic Photographers Society (OPS) photos will be accepted until Jan. 10, 2017 at 5 p.m. ET. The film uploading link opens Tuesday, Feb. 7.
Last weekend’s Young Eye Surgeons (YES) Advanced Cataract Training (ACT) in Denver was a great success. Attendees experienced an intensive weekend training program that included didactic/video case presentations, a hands-on wet lab, and roundtable discussion breakout sessions. The meeting was designed for residents, fellows and surgeons in their first five years of practice.

National Sight Week is a week-long celebration of volunteerism, during which members of the ASCRS Foundation’s Operation Sight network are encouraged to contribute one or more charitable cataract surgeries in their own communities. The ASCRS Foundation will work to match needy, eligible patients with volunteer surgeons, and will provide a financial stipend for each surgery completed.
